Healthcare Support Services Level 2 (Intermediate) Apprenticeship

Healthcare support services play a vital part in the smooth running of healthcare services. Individuals undertaking this framework may have a wide range of job roles e.g. porter, housekeeper, catering manager, medical records clerk, estate manager etc. The Healthcare Support Certificate included within this framework has been designed in consultation with the healthcare sector including Skills for Health, so that it is flexible enough to cater for a broad range of roles.

This Level 2 course provides a great platform to develop your career whilst gaining hands on experience within the healthcare sector. Furthermore, it provides a fantastic opportunity for learners who wish progress onto higher level qualifications or specialisms within the health sector.

Who Should Take The Course

The Level 2 Certificate in Health Care Support Services is ideal for anyone working in the following roles: Healthcare Support Service Worker, Ward Clerk and Medical / Health Records Clerk.

Entry Requirements

Whilst there are no specific entry requirements to this course, learners should show enthusiasm for working within the health sector, have basic numeracy and literacy skills, have a suitable level of fitness and be willing to undergo an enhanced  Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Furthermore, learners need to be flexible as there may be a requirement to work a shift pattern.

This Apprenticeship consists of 5 component parts, all of which must be completed. The Healthcare Support Services Intermediate Apprenticeship is achieved by studying:

Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Healthcare Support Services

Functional Skills in English

Functional Skills in Maths

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

Level 2 Award in Employment & Personal Learning Skills in Health


You may progress from this apprenticeship onto further qualifications specific to your work context.  A wide range of qualifications are available including higher level apprenticeships, management qualifications and sector specialisms such as physiotherapy, dementia care or supporting learning difficulties
