RETAILER: THE ROLE

The broad purpose of the occupation is to advise on and sell products and services in a customer-centric retail environment. This includes creating an accessible and well-presented environment. Retailers provide information and advice to customers regarding stock, products, different ways customers can shop and various payment methods. In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with internal stakeholders such as members of their own team, other departments, and senior management. They also interact with external stakeholders such as customers, delivery drivers and compliance officers.

    • General principles to meet customers requirements and be an ambassador for a business.
    • Techniques and opportunities for increasing sales in the business.
    • Principles of effective communication, verbal and non verbal.
    • Communication methods to deal with different situations.
    • Link between brand reputation and business success, own performance that impacts business reputations including social media.
    • Importance of window and store displays, merchandise impact.
    • General principles of stock control and security.
    • General principles on business positioning, USP, promotions and advertising campaigns.
    • Consumer legislation, trading practices.
    • Health and safety, security and confidentiality.
    • Implications of environmental matters on work activities.
  • What's Involved

    • On and off the job skills training 
    • Level 1 Functional Skills in English & Maths 
    • Planning, Target Setting and Feedback 
    • Mock End Point Assessments 

    End Point Assessment (after at least 12 months and successful completion of the above)

    • Observation with questions
    • Interview, underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
  • Knowledge and Skills

    This apprenticeship has been designed for retailers who are helping customers buy products or services from retail organisations such as department stores, garden centres, high street chains, supermarkets and online and mail order businesses.

Duration

This apprenticeship is typically completed in 13 months.

Delivery

Delivered online with remote support from Rewards Training throughout the apprenticeship.

Progression

This apprenticeship provides an ideal stepping stone into specialist, team leading, supervisory or first line management roles within retail and higher level training and apprenticeships.
