LEAD ADULT CARE WORKER: THE ROLE

Lead Adult Care Workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres or some clinical healthcare settings.



The job roles are varied and determined by the type of service being provided and person being supported. This apprenticeship is for you if you are interested in roles in the Healthcare sector such as Care Worker, Personal Assistant, Domiciliary Care Worker, Community Support and Outreach Worker, Healthcare Assistant, and in particular Supervisory and Senior Care Worker roles in the Adult Social Care and the Healthcare sectors.

ABOUT THIS APPRENTICESHIP

This Apprenticeship Standard is aimed at professionals who wish to take a lead in exercising judgement and taking appropriate action to support individual adults in care to maintain their independence, dignity and control. By providing leadership, guidance and direction at the frontline of care delivery you will be instrumental in improving the health and wellbeing of those receiving care and support. Lead Adult Care Workers may delegate some responsibilities and they are then accountable for supporting and leading those personnel in complying with expected standards and behaviours.

  • Qualification Topics
    • Both your own and other workers main tasks and responsibilities –supporting individuals with social activities, monitoring health, assisting with eating, mobility and personal care.
    • How to create and develop a care plan based on a person’s preferences in the way they want to be supported; and how to monitor and review it in response to changing needs.
    • Relevant statutory standards and codes and professional boundaries (organisational regulations, policies and procedures) –‘Duty of Care’ is in practice, and how to lead and support others to ensure compliance.
    • The right values and behaviours –how to ensure dignity is at the centre of all work with individuals and their support circles; the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.
    • The importance and types of effective communication.
    • The role of advocates and when they might be involved.
    • Dealing with comments and complaints ensuring appropriate and timely actions.
    • The importance and process of whistleblowing, being able to facilitate timely intervention.
    • How to champion Health & Safety, and wellbeing for the individuals you support and work colleagues; principles of Safeguarding and responsibilities for ensuring confidential information is kept safe.

    • The Care Certificate
    • Level 2 Functional Skills in English & Maths
    • Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check
    • On the Job Training and Ongoing Assessment
    • Self Assessment (including collection of testimonials)
    • Mock End Point Assessment
    • End Point Assessment (after at least 12 months): Multiple-choice test, Professional Discussion leading to Apprenticeship achievement certificate (Pass, Merit or Distinction).

Duration

This Apprenticeship is typically completed in 18 months.

Delivery

Delivered online with remote support from Rewards Training throughout the apprenticeship.
