ADULT CARE WORKER: THE ROLE

Adult Care Workers are the frontline staff helping adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives which is at the heart of person-centred care. ï»¿


Job roles are varied and determined by the type of service being provided and person being supported. This apprenticeship is for you if you are interested in roles in the Healthcare sector such as Care Worker, Personal Assistant, Domiciliary Care Worker, Community Support and Outreach Worker, etc.

ABOUT THIS APPRENTICESHIP

Achievement of this Apprenticeship provides the first step in a career as a professional Adult Care Worker.

  • Qualification Topics

    The qualification has a number of essential elements that everyone will study.

    • Main tasks and responsibilities – these could include supporting individuals with social activities, monitoring health, assisting with eating, mobility and personal care.
    • The right values and behaviours, including the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion – the person centred approach to care.
    • Contributing towards an individual’s care plan, and how to respond to changes of an individual’s needs.
    • The importance and types of effective communication.
    • Professional boundaries – organisational regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Relevant statutory standards and codes – what ‘Duty of Care’ is in practice.
    • Health & Safety, plus the principles of Safeguarding and information protection.
    • Personal development – continually improving competences and skills.

    • Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care (England)
    • The Care Certificate
    • Level 1 & Level 2 Functional Skills in English & Maths
    • Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check
    • On the Job Training and Ongoing Assessment
    • Self Assessment (including collection of testimonials)
    • Mock End Point Assessment
    • End Point Assessment (after at least 12 months): Multiple-choice test,
    • Professional Discussion leading to Apprenticeship achievement certificate (Pass, Merit or Distinction).

Duration

This Apprenticeship is typically completed in 16 months.

Delivery

Delivered online with remote support from Rewards Training throughout the apprenticeship.

Progression

Progression is likely to be into a Lead Adult Care Worker role.
